"Behind them, a cloud
that is the cloud of glory
rises in the air.
The horses were strong!
The horses were agile!”

So ends José Santos Chocano, singer of the Americas, his famous poem dedicated to the horses that accompanied the Spanish conquistadors. As children, our teachers taught us to recite his verses and we learned to love the noble equine. From that blood purified over the 400 years that followed the arrival of the Spaniards and, thanks to the dedication and perseverance of Peruvian breeders, we can today applaud with pride that symbol which is the Peruvian Paso Horse.

History tells us that the horse, a noble animal, has accompanied man through the passing years, in battles, as transport, in tournaments, in the Crusades, in his loves and in countless other experiences. Today the horse, despite all the advances provided by civilization, continues to be man's faithful companion that follows and helps him in numberless diverse activities.

Tradition, mother of History, imposes on us tasks that can often fill us with satisfaction, one of these being to lead our children in to love our equine, and to watch them enjoy the junior trials. It is gratifying to see the children, future of our afición, taking part on a horse not only in competitions but also as our companions in the breeding of our horse. It is fine to observe the interest and desire to learn they show when “their elders speak”.

Children are very important to “Made in Peru”. With this in mind, we have added in this present edition a “KIDS” column that as well as entertaining them will aid their learning.
This and many other surprises will appear in our magazine in the course of this year.

Today we greet our friends – breeders, showmen and aficionados – who take part in the Central American Show in Guatemala, wishing this event every success.
